“We originally found out about Balloon Adventures Italy from a brief mention on Alina’s Umbria/Tuscany blog entry about things to do while visiting Fontanaro and Umbria.
My wife had been wanting to take a balloon ride for some time, and we thought the Umbrian countryside would be one of the best places in the world to do this.
Balloon Experience in Umbria….
We were not disappointed! We had an early start to our day – the balloon takes off shortly after sunrise. Shortly after arriving we took off. We were lucky in that the weather was perfect and the winds were calm. We quickly got grand views of Assisi and the surrounding countryside that can only be seen from a balloon. It was such a neat experience to be floating and seeing the hill towns all at once. We spent about 45 minutes touring the area in the air and then landed in a field near Cannara. The farmer who owned the field was both surprised and fascinated to see us!
Captain Peter is the owner and was our pilot. He was great and did a nice job of both flying and pointing out all of the sights we could see from the balloon. The fellow passengers were a mix of both locals and tourists, so it was nice to be able to experience something like this together with a diverse group of people.
After the flight, we were treated to a wonderful breakfast and wine tasting at Cantina Dionigi. The winery is very close to Assisi, so we then spent the rest of the day exploring the old city.
We would highly recommend this experience for anyone who has been wanting to take a ballon ride!
